Drug Uses
Amaryl is indicated for treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes who cannot control blood sugar levels by diet and exercise alone. Amaryl may be used in combination with insulin.

How Taken
Amaryl is usually taken once a day with breakfast or with the first main meal of the day. Follow your doctor`s instructions regarding the dosage.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Storage
Store this medication at room temperature, between 59 –86 °F (15 – 30 °C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light (not in the bathroom). Keep Amaryl out of the reach of children.

More Information
You should always carry an identification card with you. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly according to your doctor's directions. If your blood sugar level is often higher than it should be and you are taking Amaryl according to directions, check with your doctor. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor.

Warnings/Precautions

Before taking Amaryl, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you have increased levels of acid in your bodily fluids (acidosis), a weak stomach, liver problems, intestinal problems, a high fever, kidney problems, severe diarrhea, an infection, or thyroid problems, if you have recently suffered from major surgery or trauma, or you are debilitated or malnourished, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Amaryl during pregnancy.

It is unknown if Amaryl is excreted in breast milk. Do not breastfeed while taking Amaryl. Some medicines may interact with Amaryl. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Amaryl if you have type 1 diabetes, severe second or third degree burns, increased ketone levels, severely increased acid levels in your bodily fluids (acidosis), or a history of a diabetic coma or if you are using bosentan or drink alcohol. Alcohol combined with Amaryl may increase the risk of developing abnormally low blood sugar. Alcohol can sometimes interact with Amaryl and cause a serious reaction with symptoms such as facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or stomach pain. Therefore you should avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Amaryl may cause low blood sugar (e.g. increased heartbeat, headache, chills, sweating, tremor, and increased hunger, changes in vision, nervousness, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, or fainting). It is a good habit to carry glucose tablets or gel to treat low blood sugar. If you do not have a reliable source of glucose available, eat a quick source of sugar, such as table sugar, honey, or candy, or drink a glass of orange juice or non–diet soda to quickly raise your blood sugar level.

Tell your doctor immediately about the reaction. To prevent low blood sugar levels, eat meals on a regular schedule and do not skip meals. Sulfonylurea anti diabetic medicines have been associated with increased risk of death from heart disease. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks and benefits of using Amaryl and alternative treatments for your condition. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to Amaryl, these patients might need a lower dose or/ and special monitoring during treatment. Amaryl is not indicated to be used by children. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
